Unique Fish from Papua, Called the Glass Fish and Nurse

goodmorningpapua.com – In Papua, so far the Glass Fish are known to only live and are easily found in the Digul River and swamps in Boven Digoel Regency, Bian River, Kumbe River, and Maro River, Merauke Regency.

The latest data shows that the Glass Fish were also found in Wawiyer Lake which is connected to Berau Bay via the Budigi River, Mitimber Village, Mbahamdandara District, Fakfak Regency, West Papua.

This is based on the catch of people who are fishing for nineg fish. Glass fish by Mitimber residents are called Giti-Giti fish. The Glass fish also have many names.

Besides being known as glass fish, there are also those who call it  Nurse fish or Nursery fish. In scientific language, this fish is named Kurtus gulliveri.

The shape and character of the Glass fish is unique. The Glass fish have a flat body and high, like an elongated rhombus. It is called the Glass fish because on the right and left are silver.

The male Glass fish is called the Nurse fish. Because, It has a protrusion on the top of the head that looks like a curved rope. On the rope the male glassfish lays and cares for its eggs.

The male Glass fish with eggs on the head can only be found during the breeding season. The male Glass fish always carries eggs on its head, until the eggs hatch.

Besides being found in Boven Digoel, Merauke and Fakfak, the Glass fish are also found in the Adelaide River, Northern Territory or northern Australia.
