“I emphasize that the parliament and government really love Papua. Evidently, currently both the academic text and the draft bill have been submitted to the Legislative Body, namely regarding the division of two provinces and four new regional divisions, namely three in Papua and one in West Papua. However, said this member of the Gerindra Party faction in the DPR RI, further discussions are still needed between Baleg and the government, especially the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs, regarding the allocation of financing.
If Indonesia’s fiscal space and economy have returned to normal, including the taxation sector, Supratman said, it is not impossible that the entire discussion of the draft bill can be completed. Moreover, Baleg has on several occasions held informal talks with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the expansion plan in West Papua.
“So Mr. Regents and Mayors throughout West Papua don’t need to worry. It has become a joint commitment between Baleg and friends in Commission II of the DPR RI who have proposed where it is proven that the draft bill and academic text already exist. Furthermore, because it cannot be denied that there needs to be a political decision, then in the future we will immediately discuss it with the central government, both with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said Supratman.
