goodmorningpapua.com – The West Papuan People’s Council (MRP PB), which is a cultural institution for indigenous Papuans, supports President Joko Widodo’s decision to appoint Paulus Waterpauw as an Acting Governor of West Papua.
A chairman of the PB MRP, Maxsi Nelson Ahoren, invites all communities in the Domberai Bomberai customary area to support the Acting Governor of West Papua, Paulus Waterpauw in his work for a better West Papua.
Paulus was officially inaugurated as the Acting Governor of West Papua by the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian on Thursday 12 May 2022, at around 09.30 WIT at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Paul’s inauguration was carried out together with 4 other acting governors from Banten, Gorontalo, West Sulawesi and Bangka Belitung.
The inauguration of the five acting governors is based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia number 50/P of 2022 concerning the appointment of officials signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo on May 9, 2022.
Maxsi explained that Paulus was a traditional child and a leader.
“He is a leader. He has served as regional police chief 4 times. He is the best son. With today’s inauguration, the task of the PB MRP has been completed to oversee the figure of the acting governor and has been tested in the process,” he said when met at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He appealed to the people of West Papua to respect this decision. Moreover, the governorship is only held for one year.
“This position can be prolonged if the community wants it. He has been sworn in today and let us join hands to support his work in serving the community,” he said.
