Government to Handle the Hydrometeorological Disaster in Papua Quickly – Vice President (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin instructed that the hydrometeorological disaster occurred in Papua Province should be handled immediately. The vice president ordered the Ministry of Social Affairs, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the TNI-Polri to move in helping the affected victims.

 “So as those affected by the disaster, refugees, and others are immediately handled,” said Ma’ruf, Jakarta, Friday, January 7, 2022.

 Ma’ruf said that the disaster mitigation, especially in Papua, was less taken into account. Whereas, the potential for disasters in Indonesia is high.

“The city development planning and community readiness must be arranged,” said the Vice President.

 Based on BNPB data, the death toll caused by wet hydrometeorological disaster occurred in Jayapura City increased to six people. Heavy rains also bring about landslides.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Jayapura City noted that 500 people had fled to the houses of their closest relatives. Until now, BPBD is still evacuating residents trapped in the flood.
