goodmorningpapua.com – The Biak Customary Council (DAB) requested the Biak Numfor Regency Government, Papua Province to open new job opportunities for Native Papuan children (OAP) in order to overcome unemployment in the area. “The problem of opening new jobs is a serious problem in Biak Numfor Regency, so it is necessary to make a policy to open up special employment opportunities for Papuan children,” said Biak Customary Council member Obet Ap in Biak, Friday (6/5/2022).
He said the creation of new jobs for indigenous peoples is the hope of the indigenous people in Biak.
Currently, he said, the number of high school/vocational high school graduates in Biak Numfor continues to increase but there are very few job opportunities. Yohanis Ronsumbre, a member of the Papuan DPRP Special Faction, is expected to convey this aspiration to the local government, TNI/Polri and regional stakeholders in Papua Province.
“There needs to be a special regulation that regulates recruitment to become TNI/Polri soldiers for indigenous Papuans,” he said. He hopes that the opening of new job opportunities for the OAP community can be made available with the policy of the expansion of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua.
Meanwhile, another member of the Biak Customary Council, Mananwir Pondayar, hopes that the Biak Numfor Regency Government and the Papua Provincial Government will pay attention to OAP’s original rights, especially in creating jobs.
“The government program is expected to open up as many job opportunities as possible for Biak children,” he said. A Head of the Biak National Unity Agency, Yermias Rumbiak, emphasized that the government has consistently implemented the mandate of Law Number 2 of 2021 concerning Special Autonomy for the welfare of the Papuan people.
