Ahead of the PON XX Papua, the Government Ensures a Conducive Political Situation

goodmorningpapua.com – A Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD affirmed that the national political situation is relatively conducive ahead of the National Sports Week (PON) XX and National Paralympic Week (Paparnas) XVI in Papua from October to November 2021.

“Our general political situation is now good, conducive, that if there is a debate,  that is actually progress from our political life,” Mahfud said in a virtual press statement, Thursday.

Mahfud said the government gets ready to hold the national sporting event in Papua. For example, he gave an example, the facilities for the places where the matches for each sport have been prepared have been completed.

“In general, everything has been completed, all other technical problems will be finished before September 20. The Minister of Youth and Sports has coordinated with various institutions,” he said.

Previously, the National Police planned to deploy 9,000 personnel to secure the National Sports Week (PON) XX procession in the Papua region in October 2021.

The Director for Security for Vital Objects at the Papuan Police, Kombes Pol. Nicholas Ari Lilipaly, said that the thousands of personnel were not only from the Papuan Police, but were also assisted by the National Police Headquarters. Unfortunately, he did not specify the amount of personnel assistance provided by the National Police Headquarters to the Papua region.

“So the details of the people who will come to the Papuan Regional Police’s jurisdiction consist of 6,000 athletes, 3000 officials, and 9,000 committee people,” he said in his official statement in Jakarta.
